Reposting this extremely aesthetic shot by amazing gift recipient @coinstarofficial because I ain’t got NOTHING new to share right now 🤷🏻‍♂️ What can I say y’all, the new year is exciting and all but also I am having all these big ole feelings about my personal life and sometimes the feelings get so big that I can’t make any art at all. I hate that it happens but I’m trying really hard to just sit with it.

Semi-related - just before the new year I started taking T again after a lapse of about 4 years. This marks a big turning point for me in how my body and I want to relate to each other, and my personal confidence about how to walk in the world and advocate for myself. I’m so shy about talking about myself publicly, but this is something I want to try to do more of this year: I’m tentatively accepting that the more I can share of myself, the more I can connect with others.

I’m doing my own personal top 9 from this year because regardless of number of likes, I’m really proud of each one of these 💜💖💜 I’ve grown so much in so many dimensions this year and learned how to keep giving myself space to expand into new projects, refine my style and skills, and pursue opportunities differently than I ever have before. I’m proud of how I see improvement in everything from my line work to my product photography. I’m so lucky to have connected with so many people just by doing what feels necessary and enriching for my own self, and I’m starting to be ready to turn over a new year to see what else I find. While GENDER GEMS is a business, it’s also a deeply, intimately personal project for me; when I connect with you from a place that’s authentically me, that’s the success that makes it worthwhile. ✨❤️🌹❤️✨

Something else different and fun - I picked up these olive wood bowls and immediately wanted to try painting on them. Here is my first attempt to paint a little succulent inside one 🖌🌵 Again I’m really just loving that giving myself some time off from running a creative business allows me to just play around with making things I don’t have to try to sell. Obviously this little guy isn’t food safe anymore, but I just have to figure out how to seal the painted area so that it can still be used as a trinket bowl without scratching off the paint. Any suggestions??

It’s amazing how fast my desire to draw can rebound as soon as I give myself permission to stop working so hard 😂 Working out some emotions about heartache & heartbreak through this one. And really enjoying the flash sheet style of creating a bunch of small pieces that visually and spatially relate. May finish this one in ink and watercolor later. The shop is officially closed for the year and this lovely little pin by my bff @aseriesofsteps could not be more appropriate 🔋🔌⏳ All orders will ship on Monday and should make it to US destinations before Christmas! I’m so grateful to have connected with so many people this year and for all the unexpected opportunities that care up for me. I never dreamed of having my work carried in so many stores when the year began, nor did I imagine the kinds of friends I could make through my art, or the projects I’d be asked to create. I’m a fairly slow-moving perfectionist by nature, so it’s taught me a lot about myself to take on a project like this, and to continually create and produce new work. Thank you for supporting me as I learn and make mistakes and get better and make new mistakes - I seriously have the most amazing customers and friends 💖💕💖

If you didn’t know, I also work full time, and I struggle with chronic depression and anxiety, which as we all know is practically a full time job by itself. I’ve learned it’s so important for me to give myself permission to stop doing work for a little while in order to recharge (and I’m lucky I can afford to do so). I am really looking forward to taking time to just reflect on what I’ve worked on and make space for whatever new kind of work I want to do. Can’t wait to share that new work with you 😊

Just a few days left before I close my shop on the 15th until the beginning of 2019 🌟 I carved a small pinecone stamp to make handmade gift tags this year, and I made a bunch extra to share - any orders placed before the shop closes will get a hand-stamped tag included in their package 🌲🎁 They’re printed on 100lb kraft paper and they’re quite rustic as I am by no means an expert printmaker 😂 but they make a cute wintry token to add to a gift!

🎉 Shop closing announcement! I’m planning to close the shop in about ten days on Dec 15, and take a little time off until the New Year. You still have plenty of time to get those holiday gift purchases in and orders within the US should still make it to you before Christmas! These rainbow-plated trans symbol pins have been really well received so far - and since 50% of proceeds will be donated to @translifeline they make an extra special present.

I am wicked grateful and humbled by the growth my business has been able to make thanks to all of you. I think taking a couple weeks off will give me time to recharge and refresh my inspiration.
